Doubt crosses my mind with every morning as it seems too cold, with every mile because every mile still hurts, and with every runner who passes me on my run.  But here are a few things that inspire me:

  1. Hearing that training for a marathon (all right, I'm only training for a 1/2 marathon for now, but I'll get to marathon training very soon) is harder than childbirth.  Thank you Melissa H. for telling me this.  This really motivated me this morning as I was waiting for a light to cross an expressway.  It would have been so easy to quit running at that moment and walk back home, but I told myself that if I push myself to do this, I can take on childbirth (one day).

  2. Being reminded of how great I feel during the day after getting a nice run in during the morning.  Thanks Dan M.  I actually can't wait to wake up tomorrow to lace up my running shoes and go for my next 5 miles.

  3. When people ask how my running is coming along and I tell them how many miles I've ran that day or week.  It's great to feel this sense of achievement and to share this.  =)

  4. When race day approaches, I can start thinking of dedicating miles to people!  Whoever came up with this idea is pretty awesome!

I've also acquired some awesome new music for my iPod courtesy of Melissa H.: Feel Good Inc. by the Killers, Days Go By by Dirty Vegas, Take Me Home by Franz Ferdinand, Say It Right by Nelly Furtado, Don't Let Me Get Me by Pink - just to name a few!

I've logged 47.83 miles since starting this blog.  I plan to cross the 50 miles mark tomorrow.

Well, it looks like Apple has released some new iPod software for the 5th (5.5th) generation iPods.  It just lists "Bug Fixes" as the content of the new update, so I don't have much hope of having any of the cool features that the 160GB iPods do on my 80GB model, but maybe some day.  I can't see any real reason I wouldn't be able to have those features on this one, the video system seems pretty much the same.  Meh, I didn't notice too many bugs, except those associated with syncing with Outlook's Calendar, and I've worked around those already.

Maybe they'll surprise me though... or maybe not.  It just finished restarting, and it doesn't look like it's got any new features.  Oh well.

I had a frustrating day today on many levels, and apologies to those who were sucked into it (you know who you are, and I am truly sorry). But one of these frustrations led me on a trip to the mall with a friend, so she could get her Mac repaired at the Apple store's "Genius Bar". Now, I'm not a big fan of Macs; I'll accept that there may be something superior about them, but I don't want to have to invest the hundreds of hours figuring out everything you need to know to get to the superior level. But that's not what I want to talk about.

I have another issue with Apple, and it's the iPod. No, I don't dislike the iPod, in fact I think it as an awesome piece of machinery that has revolutionized the way we are entertained. They are the ultimate in gadget cool. I just have an issue with my rotten luck when it comes to buying one. A couple of years ago, after I had tried experimenting with lesser imitators, and always running into problems, I decided to buy the beast. I did some research, and ended up getting a 30GB iPod Photo - it was so cool that you could have this colour screen. Mmmhmm, there was a day when that was cool. So I bought the iPod, and then went through the laborious process of adding all of my music to it.

Three days later, Apple announced the launch of their sleeker, cooler Video iPod, for exactly the same price that I had just paid. Bastards. Fuckers. And other such words spewed from my mouth. I was a disgruntled Eddie. I still remember standing outside the Apple store in San Francisco on launch day, with my crappy iPod in hand. But, I carried on enjoying my little (well, slightly pudgy) bundle of joy.

Some time later, during HASWOE's days of running around a golf course (why she didn't hire a cart, I'm not sure), I could tell that she was in need of iPod therapy. So I surprised her with an iPod Mini. Yaaay. A few days later, Apple surprised me with the launch of the iPod Nano, for the same price. Bastards. Fuckers. Yeah, you get the idea.

So, while I was in the Apple store today, I had a play with the iPod Touch, and I was incredibly impressed. Yes, it is the iPhone without the phone. So I guess it's just the i. But it is much slimmer than the iPhone, and I could rapidly hit the video of Crossers on YouTube, and saw him prancing around the living room at our old house. And I hit my blog, as well as Murphy's Law, and Legally Blonde Ambition, and they all looked so cool. Now regular readers will be aware of my recent affinity to the impulse buy, and I will admit that I was close. But then I thought, "The actual iPod part is 16GB? Is that all?", and then I remembered my luck with these little machines. So I asked one of the geniuses (are they all geniuses, or only those at the bar? And by the way, there is no alcohol served at that bar. Fuckers. Bastards.):

Eddie: "Hi Genius, could you tell me if there is going to a '2nd generation' iPod Touch coming out soon with a memory that isn't quite so laughable?"
Genius: "I really don't know. This has only just come out though"
Eddie: "Well, that didn't stop you with the iPhone now did it?"
Genius: (smirking) "True. But I really don't know. Not that I'm aware of."
Eddie: "You lying FUCK. You know exactly what's going on, so don't give me that BULLCRAP. You know you're going to screw me over again, so I'm not buying this until the first day of a decent fucking memory version. Bastard. Fucker." . . .

OK, so that's how I wanted to respond, what I actually said was:

Eddie: "OK, thanks, I think I'll just wait."

But it is DAMN cool.

Clocks in at 58.2 MB.

Dunno what it's for; Apple says it's for some bug fixes.

Personally, I noticed that Cover Flow is a tad more snappier and the clickwheel a little bit more responsive.

You?
