Archive for August, 2009Barence writes “A British company has patented what can only be described as an orange goo that could save your laptop or iPod after a nasty fall. The amazing material is soft and malleable like putty, but the substance becomes solid instantly after impact. You can punch your fist into a ball of the material sitting on a desk and not feel a thing, according to the staff at PC Pro who have been testing the material, called 3do. It’s being used by the military, the US downhill ski team, and motorcycle clothing manufacturers to provide impact protection in the event of a crash. However, it’s also appearing in protective cases for laptops and MP3 players.”Read more of this story at Slashdot.
Nota: Intentaré no enrollarme mucho. IPOD TOUCH: Cámara Exterior (iPhone). Cámara Interior (iSight). Micrófono (iPhone). IPOD NANO: Cámara Exterior (iPhone). IPOD CLASSIC: Rediseño. Cámara Exterior (iPhone). IPOD SHUFFLE: Augmento de Memoria (Por elegir algo).
For Christmas I plan to buy Joy an 8GB iPod Touch but I hardly have any money left and dad says it’s an impossibility. But I will. Christmas is still a few months away so I’ll strive as hard as I can to get the money I need. On top of that there’s the money I have to take with me to France and on top of that are the Sennheiser earphones I wanna get to replace Apple’s ones. Everyone knows they’re worse quality than Asda’s fruit and veg aisle. Thankfully, that’s only an additional £40, so overally, with the iPod at £165, it’s gonna be cheaper than I expected. Originally, the plan was to get her an iPhone, but there are two things that stopped me doing that. First of all, she already has a phone, and watching her use it, she seems pretty savvy with it. And she might miss the full QWERTY keyboard, which she seems so comfortable with. After all, what’s a virtual, on-screen keyboard got against full-size buttons on a slide-out hard one? Nevertheless, I am arch enemies with her phone, a rather annoying LG. Annoying because it’s advertised as being touchscreen, but the only time that touchscreen works is when you’re dialling a number. It’ll do for now, hopefully.
Secondly, network troubles. Buying an iPhone in Britain and then taking it abroad could serve up problems galore. At least, that’s what I’d predict would happen, but I’ve never actually owned an iPhone and taken it to another country but I should imagine switching networks would be pretty hard… by fault of Apple’s difficult contracts. So, an iPod Touch should be perfect, especially considering her current iPod is practically obsolete and a tad tatty. It’s nice, though – I felt all nostalgic when I saw it. Joy said herself that she needs new earphones so why not a new iPod too? Get this – rumours are flying around that in September Apple’ll be unveiling a third-generation iPod Touch, and this one’ll tote a camera! Okay… wait… that means more cost, right? And I’d wanna get her something relatively new… people would laugh if I just got her the old one. Fingers crossed that someone will do a nice deal, maybe Currys? Or maybe Apple themselves for a change. My eyes are peeled… I need to get this otherwise, like Martyn explained, I’ll never live it down.
Facebook has released version 3.0.1 of their iPhone app to fix bugs found in the 3.0 release. No word on exactly which bugs were fixed but for the new version to be approved so fast its probably a worthwhile update. If you have anymore information please let us know in the comments.
I’m all by my lonesome right now, but oddly enough I actually cooked for myself. I hate cooking if it’s just me. Strangely enough not only was it yummy, it was quick. I made eggplant tuna patties with ginger and garlic. I then made a tomato sauce with celery, garlic, and ginger. I served it over a bit of basmati rice and presto…. I really wish more people didn’t over cook rice. A simple fool proof recipe for brown rice and most long grain rice… 1 c rice Bring the water to a boil, add the rice and salt and cover. Turn the stove down to medium and walk away from the rice and whatever you do, don’t STIR. Let the rice cook for 15-20 minutes (depending on your stove) and then come back and give the rice a quick stir. I really do mean quick. There might be a bit of water left in the pot but it’s okay, return the pot to the stove and turn the stove off. Make sure to put the cover back on the pot because it’s really important for the rice to have that last 2/3 minutes of steam. I promise you’ll have rice that you’ll love. The sauce: 2 large tomatoes Throw everything in the food processor and blend until smooth. Patties: 1 small eggplant Throw everything in the food processor and process until just the ingredients are coarsely chopped. Hope you guys enjoy, Lord knows I loved making them. It seems like cooking is keeping me sane. I don’t know why but it’s like every time I go into the kitchen, I’m instantly happy. S thinks I should seriously consider going to school to be a chef but the only problem with that is my left hand. It refuses to co-operate with me most days. I tried using my left hand to brush my teeth this morning, I won’t bore you with the details, but let’s just say that I won’t do it again unless I have a lot of time to spare in the morning. Did I mention that I got a sexy new Ipod today? My old one kept crapping I kind of got an upgrade because I bought my Ipod 4 years ago and they don’t make that model anymore. I had a black 8G Nano but they only had the 16G Nanos… I wasn’t going to argue. I got one in orange (as you can see from the picture).
It’s late, but I’ve got way too many things going on right now to not be posting about them. So this entry may not be the most polished, but, for posterity’s sake, here’s a quick update: One of the biggest worries I had about moving was church. I’ve attended the same church at home since I was three years old, so I was really worried about trying to find and get plugged in to a new church in 5 months. When I arrived in Orlando, I did a little online research, downloaded some podcasts, and today I finally attended one of the churches in person. I went to , and I really liked it. The atmosphere was laid back and the preaching and worship were very good. Overall, I definitely liked it. My only concern is that it may be a little too big to really get plugged into in 5 months, but I’m sure I’ll get some great teaching there. Plus, they have several a group that meets on Saturday nights, so that gives me four chances each week to get to church. Hopefully at least one of those times will work for me each week. I may continue to look around, but I think Celebrate is going to be my home while I’m here. I really, really liked it. The news at work is less positive: I’m only scheduled to work 32 hours this week, almost the minimum. Even worse, we got our schedules for the week of September 6th, and I’ve only got 24 hours that week. I talked to one of the people in charge of the schedule though, and she said she would get me signed up for the other required 6 hours. *sigh*. I’m definitely going to try to pick up some shifts off the Hub over the next couple of weeks. After a straight seven days of work, I finally have two days off! Woohoo! Tomorrow, I have to take my iPod into the Apple store because the stupid thing won’t charge. I’m sure they’ll tell me the battery needs to be replaced, which is going to cost $70. It’s cheaper than a new iPod, but still very frustrating. I’ll pay it, though–I need my technology! After I’m done there, I have a couple more errands to run, and then Emily and I are hanging out either tomorrow evening or Tuesday. Other than that, I have no plans. A free weekend: Oh, the possibilities!
