Steve Jobs gave a little preview on iOS 4.2 on September 1 Event, and it would be the unifying version for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.
Two new features in iOS 4.2 are:
iOS 4.2 is coming in November for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. iOS registered developers should be able to get iOS 4.2 beta soon. Note: More on iOS 4.2 as they are made available. No we do not encourage anyone to break the NDA.

I hate you Rona! :-p No, not really the hate, hate! But I hate you for telling me about the new look of iPod Nano. Yeah, people, I don’t know how late I am in the news. But I just found out that iPod Nano has a new Gen! Waahh! I can’t stop wiggling at my seat when I saw this. I think I’ve been looking at the apple website ever since I got home this morning. Check this out! Yes, yes, yes! Bye, bye now Mr. Clickwheel, because the Nano is already multi-touch functioning! You can now choose music, browse albums, adjust volume, do playbacks and fast-forwards in just a few taps and swipe of your fingers on its tiny screen. Yeah, those in the tiny square you see are still called screen! Don’t worry, though. I’m sure won’t get eye problems with this one, although your 2×2 (inches) picture is much larger than this thing. And just like iPod Shuffle, the new Nano has an awe-inspiring clip which will enable you to move freely as you place it on your sleeve, jacket, pants, or at bottom of your t-shirt…or even on your hair (I’m doing that to my iPod shuffle). You can now run, walk, and dance in the tune of Lady Gaga’s Alejandro without worrying it might fall (just be careful with the ninja-snatchers, though). Not only that, if you feel like you want to muddle your playlist, just do the shake and your wish is its command! And ever dreaming having a FM radio on your Nano? Well, what do you know? The static is IN! You can now listen to Radio Gaga every night because of its built-in FM radio. Plus, you won’t miss your fave song because you can rewind as far back as 15 minutes or fast-forward to catch up to the live broadcast. All you have to do is to Tap ‘Pause’ on the broadcast that you don’t want to miss. And get ready for this…did you know that battery life can last up to 24 hours with non-stop music? Believe me! Plus, you can choose between 8GB and 16GB memory capacity, enough to sink-in all the music you bought at i-Tunes. And, you can also lurk with its ‘Stay fit’ feature to know how much calories you burn as you run away from your girlfriend’s mother. Well, I’m checking my bank account now to see if I can afford to buy this one. Unfortunately, my savings is enough for me to survive up to the next pay day. I can wait until next month, though.
Apple revamped their iPod line yesterday with some interesting results – a little old, a little new, and something out of left field. The iPod touch saw refinements to an already-strong product while the iPod nano took off in a completely different direction from its predecessor. Then there is the iPod shuffle, which again looks nothing like its immediate predecessor but finds its roots a little further back in history. Finally, Apple TV came along with a new strategy, a new look, and a new price, all while Steve Jobs reminded us the product is simply a “hobby” for Apple. image © Apple, Inc. The iPod touch update is almost exactly what you would expect, and that’s a Good Thing™. It picks up pretty much every feature the iPhone 4 gained minus the extra-slippery enclosure. This is the first iPod touch with a camera, and it gets two – one on front and one on back. Both are accessible by Apple’s application, and the back camera is capable of shooting 720p HD videos. Also, the iPod touch gains Apple’s new , leaving the iPad as the lonely iOS device with standard pixel density in its display. All in all, it’s a solid upgrade to a product that, while still nice, was beginning to feel outdated thanks to the iPhone. I only have two quibbles about the iPod touch. First, I had the unrealistic hope that, like the iPad, this product would have 3G data capabilities. Perhaps such functionality would cannibalize iPhone sales? The other issue is with the camera. While it shoots 720p video, still images come in at a crummy 0.7 megapixels. I think most people would gladly trade a slightly thicker device for a better camera. It’s not a deal-breaker, but the still image resolution is a definite mar on an otherwise excellent update. image © Apple, Inc. Remember when Apple came out with an iPod shuffle that and was about the size of a pinky finger? Apparently people must like buttons, because the new iPod shuffle goes to 2006 for its form. It’s just more square than its aesthetic forerunner. All the same, it keeps the VoiceOver capabilities introduced in the previous generation while regaining the buttons earlier models introduced. Personally, I prefer this style over the featureless stick. It has more personality and is definitely more user-friendly. image © Apple, Inc. Once upon a time, that the iPod nano was to Apple’s media players what the iMac is to their desktops. I’m not sure that’s correct anymore. I think the iPod touch has achieved that status while the iPod nano seems more or less…conflicted. The thing is, the new iPod nano is pretty neat with its smaller form factor and its Multi-Touch screen, but it strikes me more as an upgraded iPod shuffle. The previous generation iPod nano shot and played video, had a microphone, and had a gorgeous form factor that would have catered nicely to touch screen controls. This new generation throws all of those features out the window and replaces them with a stamp-sized touch screen. Maybe I’m just getting hung up on the name, however. I’d be terribly excited about this device had it been branded the iPod shuffle. It just seems there is a hole in the iPod lineup now between the most bare-bones of players and the multifunction iPod touch. I’m genuinely curious how this iPod will go over. image © Apple, Inc. It’s hard to describe just how small the Apple TV is compared to its predecessor. The original Apple TV was about the size of a Mac mini whereas the new model is about the size of two iPhones set side-by-side. The explanation for such a drastic size difference is simple: the new Apple TV has no internal storage. It relies entirely on streaming – from the Internet, from iTunes, from home computers or iOS devices. You can rent TV shows and movies directly from the iTunes store on the device, or you can watch content from your Netflix account. In addition to these, any content you have stored in iTunes on your Mac or PC, along with content on iOS devices (after iOS 4.2 comes out in November), can be streamed to the Apple TV over a wireless network. The only real downside I see is the lack of 1080p content, which may or may not matter to you depending on whether or not you own a 50″ television or larger. Wrapping UpIn all, Apple’s media hardware saw strong updates this week, with the exception of the iPod nano’s strange forward regression. The funny thing is, I could see myself using the new iPod nano even while pining for its wonderful predecessor. I like the idea behind the Apple TV, but I don’t know that my family consumes enough televisions and movies to find a product like this enticing, and I unashamedly adore the iPod touch now. Of course, these devices aren’t all Apple updated this week. iTunes was bumped to version 10 with a new social network feature, but that’s going to have to wait for another post.
. Just when you thought you have the best gadget, they come out with a better one… how ni?! bu
The typical widely broadcast of church went out the other day, for the typical scheduled music-centric Apple event a couple days ago. I haven’t viewed it, but heard a brief clip on the Buzz Out Loud podcast in where God shows his new gift to man, the iPod Nano. Yep, typical Apple form. Say what you like about the iPod, it’s Apple’s saviour. I get the distinct feeling that since the unveiling of the iPhone way back, God has liked the sound of people cheering in amazement. Sure, it used to happen when he unveiled new laptops and the like, but the iPhone event seemed special. Nobody had ever seen anything like it before, and it had brilliant ideas. Yes, it used existing technology but it was polished into something sexy. But since then, everything Apple has unveiled at these press conferences, people have seen it before. They expect it. Apple has blown their minds and it’s hard to get excited about yet another touchscreen device. I get awkward watching keynotes with Jobs these days. He’ll stand on stage, showing off a feature that he clearly thinks is tops, and the audience will remain stone cold silent. There’s this moment of awkward as Steve stands there beaming down upon his parish and the response seems to be a large, “… and?” This, I think, has given birth to Woo-guy. He’s there, I think, to plug that gap where Jobs delivers a punchline, and nobody responds. That silence is his cue to Woo up and fill that void. Normally, an audience would cough and the performer would move on, but not at Apple events. No. When there’s no sense of wonder at the product, Woo-guy jumps up and makes sure the congregation knows when to cheer. He features briefly at this keynote
You can also hear one enthused clapper early on, when the entire audience seems to be politely acknowledging. I mean… cheering a simple clip? Really? Is it that amazing that you can clip the Nano onto your person? I look forward to hearing Woo-guy at future keynotes, and I sincerely wonder whether this guy also follows God into meetings to make sure that everyone is in a state of suitable quiet awe for when Jobs walks into the room.
“Epic Citadel” is being developed by Chair Entertainment, group behind “Shadow Complex”, the game has a medieval setting, and features free roaming and 1-on-1 fighting system. The game is powered by the Unreal Engine 3, and the graphics are amazing and on par with the rage tech demo we were shown at Quakecon last month. The games was just showed off yesterday on stage at Apples live event by Mike Capps of epic games, Today they shocked people by announcing that its available now to test drive. The game is due later this year.
Like it wasn’t enough the Apple products be amazing, the promos are also awesome! Here are some.
